Style of travel versus caravan setup

Have you seen the debates on various Facebook groups about who’s setup is better and why, or why someone’s caravan isn’t suitable for XYZ trips?

We see this argument time and time again, however, what is almost always is missing from the discussion is the individual’s ‘actual use case’ for the caravan and personal needs, which, differ amongst people.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that 90% of caravans on the road today will rarely, if ever leave the blacktop for more than a few kilometres. I’ll go a step further and state that of the 80% of those vans, people will rarely if ever get 100% away from civilisation and fully off-grid! Now please don’t quote me on the above percentages, they are just my guestimates and are by no means backed by statistical information let alone science.

My point is; for the vast majority of caravaners, caravans that are on the market today suit the vast amount of people using them, which brings us back to individual tastes and needs in terms of layouts, looks, brands & basic configurations etc.

The point of this post is; make sure you decide what style of travel you want to do before entering the often-daunting market of caravan buying. There are thousands of options available with rarely any two being the same! So, have a plan of where, what, and for how long you want to travel before making that big purchase.

How you ask, well by hiring a number of different types of caravans you will soon learn about things such as: How your tow vehicle performs based on weight, how you like or don’t like the layout, how you get on towing/reversing based on size, and what is set up and pack down like, etc, etc…
